If you're looking for something special, premium antivirus programs can offer you all sorts of additional security features - like our ransomware protection, which prevents criminals from hijacking your files and demanding ransom from you. For example, we can help you find your phone again if you lose it, which is certainly quite useful.
Of course, you don't have to choose our antivirus (although it's free and great). Another does it too. *
* although (and this is the last time we say anything, we promise) you shouldn't download any free program because some of them are actually malware in disguise and some of them are not really useful. So, in your own interest, you should always use antivirus software from a cybersecurity company whose reputation is at least as good as ours.
Use your common sense
While your antivirus can detect and remove viruses, you will do yourself a great favor if you exercise some caution and follow some basic internet security tips:
• Don't click every link your friends send on social media - especially if the message is just a link with no context, or if the message doesn't sound like your friend at all. Users' Facebook accounts are hacked and used to spread viruses and malware. If in doubt, you should write to your friend directly and ask him if he really wanted to send you this link. Often the answer is: “What ?! No!"
• Don't open an email attachment if you're not 100% sure what it is. Cybercriminals often rely on your curiosity to spread viruses online - they'll write you that you won something even though you didn't take part in a competition. Or they send you a "flight plan" even though you have not planned a trip at all. Thus you open the fitting connection just to perceive what it's the issue here ... furthermore, you're contaminated with web infections. So kindly don't do that.
• Don't fall for hysterical messages and pop-ups saying “Your PC is infected!” Those are not directly from your antivirus. Chances are, you're being tricked into downloading fake antivirus programs and paying for them, or infecting your own computer with malware - or both. If our antivirus program finds something, a short message will let you know and that's it. We will not ask you to download anything else or pay any money.
• Do not enable macros in Microsoft Office. A few years ago we would have advised you to disable macros, but Microsoft already does this by default. Cybercriminals use all kinds of tricks and false warnings to trick you into enabling macros when they receive an infected email. Don't fall for it!
And install an antivirus program. Now.
How would I eliminate the Virus from my PC?
Blocking a virus is much easier than deleting it if it is already on your computer. But don't panic if you suspect it might be infected with a virus. We protect you.
Is your computer infected?
If for some reason your computer has suddenly become very slow; when you are inundated with pop-up messages out of the blue; when programs and apps start by themselves and the hard drive is constantly hot ...
... this can be the case.
